This movie is a must see. I am sure we have all heard to some degree about this guy, Edward Snowden, from the U.S., who stole some classified documents, or was a whistleblower, or something like that. Well, see this movie and holy moley!! What he did was big, really big, and worth paying attention to.
Edward Snowden used to work for the United States government, the CIA and NSA particularly. He is now living in Russia under asylum. Talk about extremes.
In an interview in the Washington Post, December 2013, Snowden is quoted as saying:
For me, in terms of personal satisfaction, the mission’s already accomplished. I already won. As soon as the journalists were able to work, everything that I had been trying to do was validated. Because, remember, I didn’t want to change society. I wanted to give society a chance to determine if it should change itself. All I wanted was for the public to be able to have a say in how they are governed.
I will let you watch the movie and decide for yourself how you feel about the U.S. government, and also how you feel about what Snowden himself did. You decide, and become part of the conversation that he hoped would emerge.
A final quote from Edward Snowden that for me speaks volumes on so many levels of how to live a good life:
“I don’t have to worry about what happens tomorrow because I’m happy with what I’ve done today.”
Are you?
